5 Must-Have Beauty Products to Bring to a Desert Island By: Maddi Lane

It’s currently winter, and we all know it takes a bit more effort to keep that healthy glow when there’s less sun and the weather is cold. We are all looking for an easy, 5-minute face that is full of moisture and warmth, and I have narrowed it down to my 5 must-have, holy grail products. In true Islander fashion, here are the Top 5 Beauty Must Haves to Bring to a Desert Island!

Duke Cannon Balm 140 Tactical Lip Protectant Large in flavor Blood Orange Mint

This isn’t your typical chapstick brand that you see in stores, but my aunt happens to be a manufacturer’s rep for Duke Cannon, and I fell in love with this product the moment she introduced it to me. It’s as big as a stick of glue, which not only makes for interesting glances when applying, but also makes it super easy to keep up with and not lose between the couch cushions or in your handbag. Also, the formula is insanely moisturizing without being sticky or oily, and this flavor is so yummy. It also leaves a beautiful peach tint on your lips! Highly recommended to keep chapped lips at bay this season, and you can find it here.

Becca Cosmetics Sunlit Bronzer in shade Maui Nights

This is a product I completely took a gamble on when I found it at Ulta, but it has been my go-to bronzer ever since. The thing I love most about it is that it’s a 3-in-1 that features bronzer, blush and highlight that gives you a sun kissed look in seconds! For those of you who are fairer skinned, this product may be a bit harsh, but since I tend to keep a fake tan and have olive skin, this shade is beautiful and makes me feel as if I’m sitting on a beach in Maui. It also does wonders for carving out my cheekbones and giving me a subtle shimmer that mimics a summer glow. Now that I’ve found this, there’s no going back, and you can find it here!

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow + Eyebrow Gel in shade 3 (Medium Neutral Light Brown)

This comes with a funny story: When I first began playing with makeup and messing with my face in general, I had no idea what I was doing. Like most girls, I was curious about my eyebrows and how to make them look clean and shapely, so I took my tweezers and went to town. If you can tell where this is going… yes, I plucked my eyebrows almost completely off and thought they’d never grow back in. Thankfully, they did, and I started getting them professionally threaded. Despite this, my eyebrows still had some sparse patches, and my hairs weren’t going in the same direction, so I found this product to fix all of that. This gel is seriously a game changer and tops off any look! This shade makes me eyebrows look bold but still natural by keeping their shape and not over lining like some pencils will do. The eyes are the windows to the soul, and your eyebrows are the curtains - make sure they are pretty and complimentary! Linked here.

Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara

I came across this mascara on an Instagram ad a few months ago, and it’s been my go-to ever since! This formula is super buildable and dries pretty quickly so, if you’re like me, you can re-curl your lashes with the mascara on and apply one final coat for that doll-like effect without having to use fake eyelashes. It’s also smudge-free and comes off super easily when washing your face or using makeup remover. Thrive Causemetics is cruelty free, vegan friendly, and donates part of their profits to partners who help other women thrive, such as the Black Women’s Health Imperative and the National Breast Cancer foundation. I have other favorite mascaras too, but this one has been my favorite recently because it works well and gives back to a good cause. Check it out here!

Dove Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo

I don’t know about you, but my hair is straight, fine and shows its oiliness by day 2 of not washing it. I work out almost every day and constantly rinse off in the shower, but I’ve been trying to wash my hair less for two reasons: so that my natural oils have a chance to nourish my hair and can become less intense, and to save time in the shower! I love this dry shampoo because it reduces the appearance of oil at my roots, gives my hair more body and volume, and it smells amazing! Trust me, you’ll look like you just went to the salon after using this stuff - linked here.

I hope that you never actually find yourself on a desert island, but these products would absolutely keep you looking and feeling your best. I encourage you to find your island, crack open a cold beer, and give these products a try!
